The Hillsborough County firefighter whose boy died after being left inside a hot truck is now on paid leave from his department.
- Troy Whitaker has been with fire department since 2012
- 23-month-old son was left inside hot vehicle Friday
- Death considered accidental; Whitaker bonded out of jail
The investigation into how Troy Whitaker forgot about his 23-month-old boy is still under investigation.
Whitaker said he thought he had dropped off the child at day care Friday morning.
But he later realized that afternoon that the boy was still in the truck.
The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said that although the child's death is considered an accident, the decision was made to charge Whitaker with aggravated manslaughter.
Whitaker bonded out of jail Saturday.
He has been with the fire department since 2012.
