According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Scott Thomas Yutzy Jr. of Lakeland was arrested Monday in Bartow. He has been charged with DUI manslaughter and one count of vehicular manslaughter.

Troopers said on April 25, 2016, Yutzy was driving his vehicle that struck and killed Brooke Ashlee Gonzalez while she was walking on the sidewalk adjacent to State Road 52 near Chenwood Avenue in Hudson.

According to the FHP report, Yutzy's 1998 Ford Escort veered off SR 52 at 10 p.m., went onto the sidewalk and struck Gonzalez. She died at the scene.

Yutzy suffered minor injuries as his car also struck the guardrail before coming to rest in the outside lane. Troopers said Yutzy had synthetic marijuana in his system at the time of the crash.

Gonzalez, from Citra, was a softball player at Pasco-Hernando State College.

An arrest warrant was issued this week for Yutzy after a traffic homicide investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
