More than 100 people have signed a petition to install a signal at the intersection of Belcher Road and Innisbrook Drive.

One of the first things noticed at the intersection is a number of skid marks. Lauren Doria is the petition's author.

"We've been here almost two months and there's already been two or three crashes that we heard when we were home," Doria said. "And then near misses all of the time, tire squeals all the time. And it just gets pretty bad and it's really busy there, so I want people to slow down."

The stats back her up.

There were three crashes at the intersection in 2015, two in 2016 and in 2017 a total of 11. That's an increase that gets the attention of traffic engineers like Tom Washburn, the manager of Pinellas County traffic engineering.

In September, the county started a traffic study and will be meeting with the Innisbrook Property Management Association soon to discuss their options.

The answer may be a signal, but signals are expensive. So if they go a different direction, Washburn has other ideas.

"A less restrictive option such as some form of a median modification may be appropriate as well," he said.

That could mean closing the intersection to allow only right turns from the side streets.

Real Time Traffic Expert Chuck Henson said more should be learned later this month.
