A Tampa family received the best Valentine's gift -- the return of their stolen dog named Scooby.

  • Detectives save stolen, abandoned dog
  • Scooby, the pit bull, reunited with family

The Tampa Police Department shared a video of the family's reunion with their beloved four-legged family member.

Officials said a 14-year-old girl broke into the family's home on W. Orient St. and stole the pit bull on Feb. 11.

A neighbor witnessed the incident and called the police. Officials said police were able to locate the suspect and arrest her, but not before she abandoned the pit bull in another location.

Officials said suspect left the 2-year-old dog somewhere with no food or water.

Detectives attempted to get the location of Scooby from the girl, but they said she was agitated, said "the dog can die," and refused to cooperate.

Eventually detectives obtained a possible lead to Scooby's location and ended up finding him in an enclosed shed in the back of a vacant house located at 3305 N. Bailey Street on Monday.

Detectives also recovered evidence from other burglaries that occurred over the weekend.

Officials said Scooby was dehydrated and hungry when he was found, but thankfully is now back in the care of his family.
