A second grade class in Manatee County is doing its part to help those less fortunate.

  • Second grade class creates Blessing Bags for kids in need
  • Students wanted to help after learning about children's rights
  • Students at Wakeland Elementary donated items for the bags

Students at Wakeland Elementary School have joined in on The Blessing Bags Project.

Kids in Iris Comegno’s class decided to put together Blessing Bags for children in need after learning about children’s rights and discovering that not every child receives the same rights and needs as they do.

So the kids took action and came up with the idea to make Blessing Bags.

The students made a list of items they thought kids could use: toothpaste, toothbrush, Band-Aids, hairbrush, shampoo, conditioner, coloring books, crayons, snacks, etc.

They also made flyers to send home to the entire school, asking for donations of the items they needed.

The students started putting together the bags on Tuesday and will finish Thursday.

The class will work with The Blessing Bag Project Organization to donate the bags.

The Blessing Bag Project was founded in Bradenton in 2014. They say they are a group of concerned citizens who have a love for the homeless in their community.
