A Pinellas County woman said her 81-year-old mother was the victim of a video voyeur reported last week and she wants justice.

  • Incident occurred at Bristol Court Assisted Living Facility
  • Facility reportedly cited for improper training of staff
  • Suspect charged with two counts of video voyeurism

Cynthia Yopp told us when she saw a story on the news last week about two residents at an assisted living facility who were secretly recorded having sex, it immediately struck a chord with her.

“I said, 'Oh my god, that’s my mother,” said Yopp. “I thought it was my mom because there has been times with due to the fact of her illness she has acted out. Pretty much I know my mother. Everybody knows their people. Everybody knows their mother. And I know my mother, so I went straight to the source.”

Yopp said when asked, her mother admitted that it was her. “At first she was hesitant, and then she said, 'Yeah baby, it was me.'”

Yopp, however, insists the crime isn’t in her mother and a 59-year-old male resident of the facility having sex. She said the crime is the fact that they were secretly recorded.

“We are extremely upset. My children are. My mother’s embarrassed,” said Yopp.

Yopp said her mother has lived at the Bristol Court Assisted Living Facility for years. But she said hearing how investigators said 20-year-old Alexis Williams recorded her mother and the man having sex, then posted the recording on Snapchat was a complete shock.

Alexis Williams (Pinellas County Sheriff's Office)

The fact that Williams worked at the facility as a medical assistant, tasked to care for the residents, made the news even more difficult to process.

“[Williams] had no remorse and it’s inconceivable how somebody like that ... how would she like it if it had been one of her family members? Her mother? Her grandmother?” Yopp said.

Williams currently faces two counts of video voyeurism.

Bristol Court Assisted Living Facility released this statement Monday afternoon:

“Bristol Court Assisted Living and its staff are troubled by the contents of the posting by former staff at our community. We will continue to work with Agency staff and Law Enforcement in their investigation. In light of the ongoing nature of the investigation and out of the respect for the privacy of the residents and their families Bristol Court is unable to further comment at this time.”

Yopp said that acknowledgment isn’t enough and she wants her mother out of the facility. She said inspection reports from the Agency for Health Care Administration drive the point home even further for her.

In those reports, the facility was cited for not properly training their staff last year. They were also cited for failing to give patients proper assistance with medication. One employee, while referring to the different medications, reportedly said, “I don’t know what half of them are for.”
