If you've noticed a pirate-looking ship docked next to Poynter Park in South St. Petersburg, don't worry.

Gasparilla isn't coming across the bay. It's the Caravan Stage Company preparing to perform a show on the water.

But this is no normal theater troupe. The play is a combination of acting, acrobatics and special effects, put to the theme of an environmental message.

Troupe manager Gary Maywood says, "If you were to think of Cirque de Sole meets Occupy, you'll get some sense of what it's all about."

The group, originating out of British Columbia, has traveled the world offering its unique brand of performances.

"We came here to premier a brand new show (Nomadic Tempest) that will go to New Orleans and then to Galveston, and then we will actually load it on a freighter and take it to British Columbia down through the Panama Canal," Maywood said.

The new play is a mythical saga about a band of butterflies forced to migrate due to climate change.

The show will run April 4-9 in Poynter Park right behind USFSP.
