  • Man hospitalized after bizarre string of robberies, erratic behavior
  • Police first alerted to robbery at Save-A-Lot
  • Police alerted to other strange activities at Subway, CVS
  • Suspect identified as Shavenski Green, 40
  • Green became unresponsive during arrest

The Lakeland Police Department was first alerted to a robbery at the Save-A-Lot on George Jenkins Blvd. around 6:45 p.m.

Police said Shavenski Green, 40, stole cash from Save-A-Lot.

Police were told that Green walked into the store and reached over the counter as the clerk was assisting a customer and grabbed cash from the register.

Green then proceeded to walk quickly out of the store and unexpectedly sat down on a stack of bottled water. Police said he then threw the money into the air.

Another employee tried to grab some of the money but was pushed away by Green, who then grabbed some cash off the floor and fled the store.

Police said Green then walked into the Subway store asking for water and was "acting crazy," also threatening to kill the employees.

Green was asked to leave and went to the CVS store, police said, where he grabbed a coke and opened it without paying.

Employees there told police that Green was speaking loudly and belligerently. They described him as disheveled and possibly chemically impaired.

Green left the store, police said, but returned and stole several items of make-up before leaving again.

An officer spotted Green in the intersection of Wabash Avenue and George Jenkins Boulevard. The officer said Green sat down in the median and was not acting normal or answering any questions.

The officer stood behind Green to keep him from getting up, and as he waited for back-up, Green grabbed the officer's leg and actively resisted arrest.

Responding officers were able to help take Green into custody. During the resistance, Green was stunned with an electronic gun.

Police said Green continued to struggle while in handcuffs, so they used an agency issued rip hobble (restraint device) on Green's legs, to prevent him from kicking officers.

As officers began to search Green's pockets, they noticed he had stopped breathing and was unresponsive.

Officers began life saving measures until paramedics arrived. Green was transported to Lakeland Regional Health and is in stable condition.

Green was charged with robbery and resisting arrest with violence.

Officials also stated that Green has a lengthy criminal record, which includes 20 felony charges and 34 misdemeanor charges.
