Firefighters with Hillsborough County Fire Rescue were busy overnight with two fires. 

  • Two Hillsborough County fires overnight
  • Flames at Jersey Mike's sub shop in New Tampa, house in Wimauma
  • No word on how fires started, both under investigation

According to officials crews fought a fire at a Jersey Mike's Subs in New Tampa and a residence in Wimauma early Tuesday. 

Crews responded to a house fire in the 14200 block of Edinburgh Moor Drive just after 1 a.m. When firefighters arrived they found heavy fire and smoke coming from the roof of the two-story home.

The owner of the home, a firefighter from New Jersey, suffered minor burn injuries. Officials said the homeowner's barking dog alerted him to the fire. The dog did not survive the fire, officials said.

Officials said the fire may have started in an upstairs bedroom in the back of the home. It took about 30 minutes to bring the fire under control. 


Hillsborough County firefighters were busy overnight with structure fires in New Tampa and Wimauma. 

About an hour later later, crews were called to a fire at the Jersey Mike's Subs located in the 14900 block of Bruce B Downs Blvd.

When crews arrived they found heavy fire inside the sub shop. No one was inside the sub shop and firefighters accessed surrounding businesses to check for fire extension.

Jersey Mike's Subs sustained heavy fire damage. Neighboring businesses Pinch A Penny Pools, Good Times Smoke Shop and Mr Dunderbak's all have minor smoke damage.

Crews were able to bring the flames under control in about 20 minutes. 

There were no injuries. 

Both fires are under investigation.
