Hailey Acierno's body was found in a heavily wooded area about two miles from her home. She had been missing since March 28.

Tampa police made the announcement during a Friday news conference at Flatwoods Park.

Acierno didn't show up for school last Tuesday and had been last seen near her home in the Arbour Green Neighborhood of New Tampa.

Police suspect that Acierno took her own life and don't suspect foul play.

"Our ultimate goal was to unite her with her family," said Police Chief Eric Ward.

Ward described Friday's developments as a "very tragic incident, very tough thing to go through."

Other agencies including the Pasco County Sheriff's Office and Sarasota County K-9 units assisted with the search.
