St. Petersburg police are investigating a fatal overnight stabbing in the parking lot of closed gas station.

  • Victim found at 38th Ave N. and 28th Street
  • Police: Suspect drove off in cab driver's taxi

Officials said officers were called out to a Citgo gas station at 38th Ave N. and 28th Street just after 1 a.m., where they found a man seriously injured with upper-body stab wounds. 

The victim, identified as John Andrew Hutchens, 59, died at the scene. 

Officials said Hutchens was a cab driver for United Taxi of Clearwater. Investigators think the suspect drove off in the victim's taxi cab, then abandoned it near 47th Ave N. and 71st Way. 

Detectives have interviewed witnesses and are reveiwing evidence collected from the two scenes.
