  • FHP says he refused to perform sobriety test
  • Craig suspended without pay by Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office

Sgt. Timothy Craig, 46, who has been an employee with the Sheriff's Office since 1994, was also charged with damaging property, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The incident occurred Tuesday night on East Buena Vista Drive in Orlando.

FHP said a Toyota Tundra hit a stop sign and then entered a pedestrian crosswalk bridge and "began bouncing off the pillars with its front and rear sides until it came to a final rest."

Craig was taken to Celebration Hospital for treatment of injuries, and a report by FHP said Craig didn't remember the crash and had "bloodshot eyes."

When Craig was released from the hospital, troopers said Craig was asked to perform standard sobriety tests but that he refused.

Craig also said he didn't understand his Miranda Rights before later stating that he did, troopers said.

He was taken to the Orange County Breath Test Center, then taken to Orange County Jail.

He was also charged with careless driving and two open container violations.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said Craig will be the subject of an internal administrative review.
