St. Petersburg Police officers arrested a suspect in a homicide discovered earlier in the day July 18.

  • Joshua Thompson, 27, arrested without incident
  • Woman found dead Tuesday morning
  • Victim identified as Melinda Soria, 35

According to authorities, Joshua Thompson, 27, was arrested in the 4500 block of 19th Avenue South in St. Petersburg Tuesday evening. Police took him into custody without incident.

Thompson was charged with second degree murder in the shooting death of Melinda Soria, 35, who was found dead at 1100 James Ave South Tuesday just after 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Police said Soria was shot just outside of her home.  

Bay News 9's Sara Belsole said officers evacuated a home on 40th Avenue South and 8th Street South during the search for the shooter. Police said the incident is domestic related.
