The Polk County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal hit-and-run in Frostproof.

And traffic investigators are seeking the public's help. 

According to authorities, deputies received a call from someone who found a dead man along the side of Highway 27,  just north of Avon Park Cutoff Road, at 12:35 a.m. 

The man, identified as 33-year-old Jerry Dean Walker, appeared to have been struck and killed by an unknown vehicle.

Deputies said they believe he was struck by a car, and not a semi, truck, or SUV, of an unknown color, make, and model. 

According to officials, Walker was wearing basketball style shorts and no other clothing, and no shoes. He had beer cans on him, and impairment on his part is suspected. It does appear he was walking in the roadway when he was struck.
