  • Woman shot and killed in incident in Tarpon Springs
  • Police responded to 442 Riverside Drive
  • No officers injured, FDLE investigating

No officers were injured.

According to police, officers received a call just after 10 a.m. and responded to a home at 442 Riverside Drive. Police said the initial call referred to a black woman saying something to the effect as "call the police."

Two officers approached the woman upon arrival and said she produced at least one knife and aggressively charged the officers.

Police shot the woman, later identified as Alkeeta Allena Walker, 32, with a Taser twice, but said she continued to aggressively charge at them with the knife. According to police, one of the officers, Officer Matt Greer, was backing up and fell to the ground as Walker advanced toward him while holding the knife.

Greer then shot at Walker, striking her.

She was taken to Florida Hospital-North Pinellas where she was pronounced deceased at 10:58 a.m.

Neighbors said the whole thing caught them off guard.

"This is my bedroom window right here, literally like 20 feet away" said a resident who would only give us his first name, Eric. "I never heard anybody screaming or yelling. I just heard 'pop pop,' looked out the window and she was down."

Other witnesses said they never actually saw the knife, but they did see Walker rush the officers.

"She was lunging towards him with something in her left fist," said resident Tom Acierro. "That was the only wild movement I saw."

Officers reported finding at least two knives on the scene, including one with a six-to-eight inch blade.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement responded to the scene and is conducting an investigation.

The officer was placed on paid administrative leave according to department policy.
