A woman has turned herself in for leaving the scene of a deadly hit-and-run crash in Orange County, the Florida Highway Patrol confirmed Wednesday.

Troopers said Jennifer Toth was driving along State Road 535 around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, when she hit a woman crossing the street at Meadow Creek Drive, just south of the entrance to Walt Disney World at Hotel Plaza Boulevard.

According to witnesses, Toth ran a red light and hit the woman in a crosswalk, but then just kept on driving.

Troopers said the victim is 22 years old and from China, but was not carrying any identification.

She was taken to Dr. Phillips Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Toth, 43, was visiting from San Jose, California, on business. Troopers said she was on her way to the nearby Waldorf Astoria Resort when she hit the woman.

Other drivers stopped to help, but it was too late.

Witnesses, including Derek Dunning, said they were stunned at what happened.

"It's just hard to say, you know, it's somebody's daughter, and it could be somebody's mother that just passed away," said Dunning.

Troopers said Toth called authorities later Wednesday morning after seeing news reports of the crash, saying she thought she hit something.

The front end of Toth's car, however, was seriously damaged. Investigators said after hitting the victim, she drove the damaged 2010 Nissan Altima to a business off Vineland Road, and then called a taxi to take her back to the Waldorf Astoria.

Authorities could not explain her actions, but said hit-and-runs are all too common in Orange County.

"This is our third hit-and-run fatality this week, and we typically see people run for three reasons: They don't have a valid license, they're wanted or they don't belong here legally, or they're impaired," said FHP Sgt. Kim Montes. "This was several hours after the crash, so we don't know if the impairment issue was there. She has a valid license out of California. She's not wanted, and we don't know why she ran."

Toth was booked into the Orange County Jail on charges of leaving the scene of a deadly accident. A bond of $20,000 was listed in the jail's inmate database. She bonded out of jail Wednesday night.

If convicted, Toth could face up to 30 years in prison.

SR-535 was shut down southbound for some time starting shortly after midnight Wednesday. All lanes reopened in time for the morning commute.

As for the victim, troopers said they believe she was a young woman in her early 20s. They said they are working with Walt Disney World security to see if the victim might have been an employee.

A Disney spokesman, however, said they have not gotten any word that the victim was a Disney cast member.
