An aggravated assault suspect is in custody after he attacked a police dog early Saturday morning.
DiOGi was assisting in an investigation involving an aggravated assault with a knife when officers spotted Jose Fernando Cortez, 35, running from the scene.
The dog caught up with Cortez, biting his leg.
That's when he took out a box cutter and began stabbing at DiOGi.
The box cutter broke, and DiOGi was not injured as he pulled Cortez to the ground.
Officers were then able to take Cortez into custody.
Because DiOGi is considered a police officer, attacking him is a serious crime.
