The number of flu cases in Central Florida is steadily rising, and so are cases of pneumonia.
CentraCare says they have seen a record number of positive flu tests. The number of pneumonia cases have increased by nearly 100 percent.
Florida isn't alone -- 31 states report widespread flu cases, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Activity is particularly high throughout the south, though much higher than in Florida.
Pneumonia is often caused by a flu that gets worse.
Common symptoms of the flu include:
- High Fever
- Severe Aches and Pains
- Exhaustion, Fatigue & Weakness
- Headache
- Cough
- Chest Discomfort
Sneezing and a sore throat can also be symptoms. It can also cause croup cough, bronchitis and ear infections.
The CDC recommends everyone to get a flu vaccination, even though we are in the midst of flu season.
