While Russian scientists collect more pieces of that meteorite that injured hundreds and caused thousands of dollars in damage, there was a close call here at home, in Florida.

A meteor was spotted Sunday along parts of Florida, from Jacksonville to as far south as Miami, and even in some parts of Central Florida.

It's been the talk all over social media, with the hashtag #MiamiMeteorite trending after many people in Florida reported seeing a meteorite the size of a baseball in the sky.

The American Meteor Society is investigating about 30 reports of meteor sightings in Florida Sunday night, labeling it "Meteor Event 313" for the year.

On the Meteor Society's website, Elsie, from Winter Haven, wrote: "Was driving south on Hwy 27, at first sight appeared as bright as the sun."

Marketa, of Cocoa, reported: "Driving on I-95 south, I saw a green fireball that turned to orange!"

Did you see it, and maybe did you capture any pictures of it? We want to see them!

Experts said it is pretty common for small meteorites to fly through the sky; they usually fly into open waters.
