If you're in downtown Orlando right now, stand on Central Blvd. and look up. Way up. One side of the Fairwinds Credit Union is being transformed into what looks like a gigantic advertisement or mural.

Since the artwork is almost identical to the promotional stunt Universal pulled off at the Staples Center in Los Angeles last summer to promote the opening of the Transformers ride at its Hollywood park, I reached out to Universal Orlando for comment. So far, Universal has not responded to our emails or phone calls.

[UPDATE] Universal Orlando announced early Thursday that Transformers: The Ride will open Thursday, June 20, 2013.

Universal has also not responded to our multiple requests for a construction update.

So we reached out to our partners at Orlando Attractions Magazine.

First, regarding the artwork downtown, Editor/Publisher Matt Roseboom says that a letter that Twitter user @PlazaAndMainSt received stated that the Fairwinds Credit Union tower located at 135 W Central Blvd. is helping out with “an EXCITING announcement from one of Orlando’s major theme parks.”

Roseboom says the project will be completed by Friday morning, so he's hoping for an opening day announcement then as well.

From the looks of it, Transformers: The Ride - 3D looks ready to open any day now. (See photos above we got from a theme park guest).

Here's what else Roseboom told us:

"I know the sign is up (and looks great at night) but we've heard more will be added to the sign," he said. "Rumors say an animatronic Transformer will be added above it. I hope that one is true. That sounds very cool. Unfortunately, we weren't included in a recent media tour inside. But we do have video on our YouTube channel of the queue of the ride in Hollywood."

Roseboom also heard that Universal is constructing a meet and greet building for the characters near where they're meeting guests now.

"Some of the characters are so tall, they can't come out when there are high winds," he said.

Could "Energon" be the new Butterbeer?

"We've also heard that, like in California, our park will be serving the orange Energon drink once the attraction opens."

Like we've previously reported, the Orlando version of the ride is expected to be identical to the other two versions in Hollywood and Singapore, except for some upgraded video systems.

The Singapore theme park describes theirs as the following:

"Get ready to experience this hyper-realistic 3D thrill ride, right in the middle of all the action in the incredible world of Transformers. The fate of humanity hangs in the balance as villainous Decepticons invade Nest Headquarters to steal the AllSpark. And you’ve been volunteered to take it to safety and save our planet! Race through the city, zipping through subway tunnels, down city streets and across high-rise rooftops, hanging on for dear life. Join Optimus Prime and the Autobots as you become a freedom fighter in the ultimate 3D battle against the forces of evil."

Universal Studios Hollywood says this:

"Transformers: The Ride-3D is an immersive, next generation thrill ride blurring the line between fiction and reality. Fusing HD 3D media and flight simulation technology, this epic ride creates an experience unlike anything this planet has ever seen. Based on the popular movie franchise, this mind-blowing new Transformers adventure puts you in the middle of the ultimate war zone. Fight alongside Optimus and try to survive as you protect the AllSpark from Decepticons over four stories tall. Remember, the future of the human race is counting on you."

Mark Woodbury, president of Universal Creative, told us that guests will feel the huge robots grabbing at them on the ride. He also said that his team worked closely with Transformers movie director Michael Bay as a creative consultant for the ride based on the movie series.

The attraction will be smack dab in the middle of Universal Studios, overlooking the lagoon. It's behind the Shrek 4-D theater and Universal Studios Florida's central lake. The building formally home to the Hercules and Xena show was leveled for Transformers.

Crews began working 24 hours-a-day last June. As you can imagine, building the new ride has been a challenge since the construction site is located in the middle of a theme park that is open 365 days a year.

Since the space is limited in the park, designers used a two-story footprint for the ride. Passenger cars will enter lifts or "elevators" that will carry riders between floors to maximize square footage.

As far as an opening date, all we know is that the ride is opening "Summer 2013." But guests have already been interacting with Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and, most recently, Evil lord Megatron, who meets, takes pictures with, and even talks to theme park guests outside of the ride building.

The larger-than-life characters hang out near Supply Vault, the official store for the upcoming mega-attraction. Supply Vault has Transformers merchandise unavailable anywhere else.
