A Kissimmee man has been charged with manslaughter in the shooting death of his sister’s boyfriend in Osceola County.

On Monday afternoon, Kissimmee police were called to Osceola Regional Hospital in reference to a shooting victim.

Investigators said Henry Ortiz-Reyes, 25, of Kissimmee was brought to the hospital by his girlfriend, Maria Gonzalez and her 20-year-old brother Henry Gonzalez-Galay. Ortiz-Reyes died as a result of his injuries.

Detectives spoke with the siblings at the Kissimmee Police Department where Gonzalez told them that she, Ortiz-Reyes, and her brother were in her vehicle and Ortiz-Reyes was driving. They stopped for gas at the Shell gas station located at 2201 W. Columbia Ave. and she went inside to pay.

When she came outside, she saw Ortiz-Reyes lying on the ground by the passenger side of the vehicle. Maria and her brother put Ortiz-Reyes in the car and she drove him to the hospital. She told police she was not sure how he got shot.

Detectives said Gonzalez-Galay cooperated with them and told them that when his sister went into the gas station, Ortiz-Reyes removed a revolver from a book bag in the front seat and showed it to Henry. As Gonzalez-Galay took the gun from him, he put his finger within the gun’s trigger guard and accidentally fired it, striking Ortiz-Reyes.

Police said Gonzalez-Galay then emptied the ammunition from the gun and discarded it in a dumpster at the hospital and disposed of the ammunition in some bushes.

Gonzalez-Galay was charged with manslaughter and tampering with physical evidence.

He was taken to the Osceola County Jail where he is being held without bond.

The gun and ammunition were recovered by detectives.
