The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office says George Zimmerman and another man helped a family of four get out of their vehicle after it overturned last week in Sanford.

Deputies said the accident happened Wednesday, July 17 around 5:45 p.m. in the area of Interstate 4 and State Road 46 in Sanford.

Investigators said a blue Ford Explorer SUV with a man and woman and their two children traveled off the road and rolled over.

When deputies arrived, they found Zimmerman and another man with the family and deputies said the two men helped the family out of the vehicle.

The sheriff’s office said Zimmerman did not witness the crash and left the scene after speaking with deputies.

No one in the SUV was injured.

We spoke with Zimmerman's defense attorney Mark O'Mara about the rescue.

“He came around a curb area and saw a car up on its side with a family stuck inside of it,” O’Mara said. “Another guy pulled over, as did George and they got out of the car and help steady the car and get the doors open so that people could get out. Actually he was on his way back to the car, when the police finally showed up and came to get him, then they recognized who he was but he was not on the official report, didn’t care to be. He was just sort of doing what he does, that’s who he is.”

Earlier Monday, Zimmerman's brother, Robert Zimmerman Jr. tweeted:

"George saw a need, he acted. Our parents taught us to help, never to boast. Humility is George's finest trait."
