A Brevard County man is dead after he plunges into the Indian River while riding a lawnmower.

Investigators think he had some type of medical issue.

It happened at the waterfront home on the 5000 block of North U.S. 1 Monday morning.

The unidentified man, who was in his 60s, regularly cut the grass on the riverfront property for several years.

Investigators said the homeowner told them the man didn't appear to be feeling well, but went on with his duties anyway.

"Preliminarily it looks like something happened that caused him to veer off course and into the river," said Lt. Tod Goodyear with the Brevard County Sheriff's Office.

A next-door neighbor said she was wondering where the man was and couldn't find him.

Investigators said she and her home health care nurse didn't hear the sound of the mower anymore.

They went to the edge of the river, and found the man and mower.

Deputies used ropes to secure the lawnmower and then eventually pulled it out of the water.

The man's name isn't being released until his family is notified.

An autopsy will take place Tuesday to determine the exact cause of death.
