Two police officers were stabbed with a hypodermic needle while trying to arrest a woman for prostitution.

Police say Kristen Monk, 22, was working as a prostitute on US 1 Sunday morning, and ran when Melbourne police officers saw her.

Investigators say when the officers caught her, she stabbed them in the hands with the hypodermic needle.

The officers were tested but the results will take a few days to come back.

"It's a scare for the officers," Sgt. Sheridan Shelley with Melbourne Police Dept. "They followed protocol and did the right thing by going to the hospital to get medical treatment."

A judge denied Monk's bond Monday. She's charged with attacking the officers and a violating her probation.
