An explosion at an abandoned building in downtown Orlando rocked several other nearby buildings Thursday afternoon.

The explosion happened around 12:30 p.m. at 47 W. Jefferson St., causing significant damage to an outer wall of the building.

Orlando fire officials said an "experimental cooking gas" in a metal device inside the building caused the blast. No one was injured, according to Orlando Police.

The impact was felt in the surrounding area, including News 13's newsroom on North Orange Avenue.

10 p.m.

An Amtrak train from Boston to Orlando was stopped for hours in Winter Park because the tracks were roped off while law enforcement investigated the explosion.

6 p.m.

The person who owns the building is Aaron Fechter. He helped create the Showbiz Pizza chain, and also invented the game Wac-A-Mole.

2:45 p.m.

Orlando Police say the building also housed materials and equipment used to build animatronics. It was not occupied at the time.

2:30 p.m.

More details on the "experimental cooking gas" that led to an explosion. The fire department reports the cylinder was full of a "hybrid mix of cooking fuels in a compressed cylinder." This is from Fire Assistant Chief Rich Wales.

The explosion is being called a tank failure or a tank rupture. The gas was stored in tanks that range in height from 12 inches to 6 feet fall They are all about a foot in diameter.

Earlier the building was deemed abandoned. That is incorrect. Assistant Chief Wales says the facility was used for some sort of mechanical purpose.

The building is unoccupied and will remain so.

Report: All Amtrak and freight railroad traffic through downtown Orlando has been suspended as the investigation continues.

Orlando Police have extended the safety perimeter to 100 feet from the Jefferson Street toward Washington Street, closing parkign lots behind businesses on Orange Avenue.

Orlando fire officials have deemed the abandoned building where the explosion happened safe, saying there is no danger of a collapse.

Though the building was abandoned, a business named Creative Engineering Inc. is listed at that address. The business appeared to be involved in making animatronic characters, based on photos from its website, robotsandgames.com.

Orlando Police said it appeared no one was inside the building at the time of the explosion. No injuries were reported, but ambulances have responded to the scene.

Orlando Police confirmed the address of the building: 47 W. Jefferson St., about a block south of the Bank of America Center and two blocks west of St. James Catholic Cathedral.
