Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando is trying to clear out its kennels in Orlando and Sanford by the end of the year.

Through Sunday, Pet Alliance is waiving adoption fees for its cats and dogs. The shelter's goal is to get 2,000 pets into forever homes by the end of the year. They had about 400 pets between the two shelters that need to get adopted as of Friday morning.

Pet Alliance has two shelters -- one in Orlando off Conroy Road across from Mall at Millenia, and one in Sanford is on County Home Road near 17-92.

Both are open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from noon until 4 p.m.

Orange County Animal Services in Orlando, Seminole County Animal Services in Sanford and Osceola County Animal Services in Kissimmee are all also offering $12 pet adoptions through the end of the year.

Orange County Animal Services has almost 100 cats and another 100 dogs, all that need homes. And every day, the shelter gets about 50 new animals.

“We’re not able to find all them homes sometimes,” said Carolina Mlynarzzyk with Orange County Animal Services.

No home means some of these animals may be put down.

“Have an open mind, because you may fall in love with someone you never expected to fall in love with,” Mlynarzzyk said.

OCAS said more than 70 pets were adopted just last Saturday, and they expect more will be adopted by the end of the year.
