Canine influenza, or "dog flu," is spreading across the U.S., and it's getting closer to Florida.

A new case of the H3N2 flu virus was confirmed near Atlanta last week.

Positive tests have been reported in at least 12 states since April, when the virus was first confirmed in the United States.

H3N2 first made headlines last month after about 1,000 dogs in Chicago contracted the virus.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there is no evidence that humans can catch H3N2.

If your dog develops a cough, the CDC recommends scheduling an appointment with your veterinarian to evaluate your dog and recommend an appropriate course of treatment.
