An Osceola County man is concerned a Halloween night incident involving an air gun and six masked males could turn deadly if it happens again.

  • The incident happened near Monterey Road in Poinciana
  • The man said appeared to be a Halloween prank

Peter Greaves served in the U.S. Army for 15 years, and he has visible injuries as a result of his service. The last thing he thought he would be dealing with is having a weapon aimed at him and his family.

The incident happened Halloween night while he was out trick-or-treating with his wife and five children.

"You know, very scary," Greaves said.

Greaves said he was driving past Laurel Avenue and Monterey Road in Poinciana when six males wearing masks shot at his car with a pellet gun — a weapon he said looked real.

"I was startled and I yelled for them to stop," he said. "Of course, they didn't stop. They ran."

The rear window of Greaves' vehicle was shattered. Glass shards remain on the sidewalk where the incident happened.

Greaves reported the incident to the Osceola County Sheriff's Office. The incident is an active investigation classified as an assault, deputies said.

"Those CO2 weapons — powered weapons — guns are for 18 and older," Greaves said. "They're not for children. And if a child is using it, they need to be supervised by an adult."

Greaves said he's concerned someone could get hurt over what appears to be a prank.

"Don't do it again," said Greaves, noting that an armed driver with a real firearm could fire back. "Learn from this. You may think this is fun and games, but you could hurt somebody and you can get hurt yourself. It's not what we want."
