Florida Gov. Rick Scott has proposed a 5 percent pay raise for Florida’s highway patrol troopers, wildlife officers and state law enforcement agents.

Scott made the budget announcement Thursday during a visit to a Florida Highway Patrol station in Orlando.

The request will be included in budget recommendations Scott will present to legislators next year.

"Florida's law enforcement officers put it all on the line for us, and I wholeheartedly support Governor Scott's budget that puts them first," Florida Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam said on Twitter.

The regular session for the Florida Legislature begins in March.
