Two people were pulled from a small plane that crashed in a wooded area near Port Orange, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded to the crash of a Cirrus SR 20 aircraft about 6:40 a.m. to the 2600 block of Bravo V Circle, at the Spruce Creek Fly-In, shortly after take off.

A 911 caller told VSCO dispatchers that the plane was upside down with "its wings stripped off," deputies said.

“He’s moving — he answered me — I’m going to go out to the road so I can direct the responders,” the caller told a VCSO dispatcher as he ran. “Tell them to come to my house and I’ll get them out into the swamp.”

Alan Kanabay, 65, and Wendy Kanabay, 64, both of Illinois were pulled from the small plane and taken to Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach, where they were in stable condition, according to deputies.

The Federal Aviation Administration will conduct an investigation. The agency said the aircraft's parachute appears to have deployed. The National Transportation Safety Board will work to determine the cause of the crash.

The Spruce Creek Fly-In community is a development with a private airport for residents.

Last March, a man was hospitalized after being struck in the back by a plane wing. In December, just after Christmas, two people were killed when a small plane crashed into a front yard.
