Powerful Hurricane Irma made landfall in mainland Florida near Naples on Sept. 10 — the statistical peak of hurricane season.

Irma has weakened to a tropical storm and is dumping heavy rain across the southeastern United States.

The storm now has winds of 45 mph and is about 55 miles southeast of Columbus, Georgia. Tropical Storm Irma is moving north-northwest at 16 mph. Minimum pressure is at 980 mb.

Irma is expected to weaken to a tropical depression by tomorrow.

The Storm Surge Warning remains from north of Fernandina Beach, Fl to South Santee River.

A Tropical Storm Warning remains for north of Altamaha Sound to the South Santee River.

Tropical Storm Irma, on its current track, will continue to move over southwestern Georgia tonight and move into Alabama on Tuesday.

It is the time to have hurricane preparedness plans and checklists in place with the peak of hurricane season being Sept. 10; the season goes through Nov. 30.​
