Lakewood WR Marquez Valdes made his 18th birthday one to remember on Wednesday.

Out of 15 other offers, the Spartans senior decided on Louisville, as to where he will play college football next fall.

"It was the place that fit me best," said Valdes. "I just had that feeling from talking with the coaches and watching their games."

Valdes selected Charlie Strong and the Cardinals over his other top choices of West Virginia and Toledo.

He spoke with Louisville assistant coach Sherrone Moore yesterday to inform him of the news and will be planning his official visit within the next few weeks.

"Overall, the recruiting experience has been fun," said Valdes. "And my family and coaches have been there for me every step of the way."

Lakewood head coach Cory Moore pulls out all the stops for his players during the recruiting process, knowing it's a once in a lifetime experience.

"I do all I can as a coach," said Coach Moore. "I guide them and help get them the exposure, but at the end of the day it has to be their choice."

In Valdes' crystal ball, he visions a state championship this year with the Spartans, but he also believes he can make an immediate impact with the Cardinals.

"I am that outside guy," he says. "I can be that threat anywhere on the field."
