A Largo High School alum is coming home.

Leonard Johnson, who spent his last four years as a defensive back at Iowa State, signed a free-agent contract with the Buccaneers Saturday after going undrafted. Johnson is a Clearwater native and was a star at quarterback for the Packers, leading them to the Class 5A state semifinals his senior season.

The 5-foot-10, 196-pound corner was all over the field for the Cyclones during his four years, starting 43 games and racking up 247 tackles, eight for loss, and also posting 26 pass breakups. He earned second-team All-Big 12 honors in 2011.

Johnson played both sides of the ball at Largo, but consistantly made plays under center, passing for 911 yards and 12 touchdowns his senior year. He was also a threat with his legs, rushing for 958 yards and nine touchdowns.
