Hillsborough County honored its spring athletes in a ceremony on Wednesday in downtown Tampa.

Jesuit’s Ike Edwards, Chamberlain’s Andrea Aaron and Bianca Bell, Hillsborough’s Jeremiah Green, Plant’s Tristan Kaye and Natalie Franklin and East Bay’s Stephanie Williams were among the award winners.

Plant High School earned the highest honor, the Vernon Korhn Award, as the top overall athletic program in the county and were also recognized for the comprehensive GPA award (3.396) and no player ejections throughout the school year. Plant won team state titles in football, girls cross country and girls tennis.

Aaron and Edwards received the Doug Price Throwers award as the top shot put and discus athletes. Bell earned the Jack and Barbara Thompson Softball Player of the Year award. Green won the Bill Shields award as the top overall track athlete.

Kaye and Franklin were recognized as the top tennis players in the county with the Andres Garcia Memorial awards. Williams won the Larmon Furniture Flag Football Player of the Year award.

The school board also recognized several state champions, including Riverview’s Faith Woodard, Chamberlain’s Max del Monte, Gaither’s Paul Barrett and the Chamberlain and Durant softball teams.

Team GPA awards went to Plant girls track (3.611), baseball (3.73) and softball (3.543), Newsome boys tennis (3.6426) and flag football (3.442), King boys track (3.294) and Freedom girls tennis (3.897).
