With private schools like Jesuit, Berkeley Prep, Tampa Catholic, Clearwater Central Catholic, and St. Pete Catholic, Shorecrest Prep has not been known for football since the late 1970's.

They are now.

The Chargers made a huge splash in the offseason when they hired Bucs legend Dave Moore to be head coach.

First task at hand? Try and turn last year's 2-8 record around.

"My job is to try and find a way to help these guys win every week," Moore said. "It's going to be fun watching these kids compete."

Moore has never coached before but describes himself as "a student of the game". Charger practices now stress fundamentals and discipline. At Wednesday's practice, a football was not even visible until the second hour.

The Chargers don't have much time to get settled in with the first game against Northside Christian rapidly approaching. The Mustangs are coached by Mike Alstott, adding more fuel to an already intense rivalry.

Shorecrest senior Garrett Schulte put it in perspective.

"We have rivalries with a bunch of schools but nothinbg like Northside. We're constantly talking about it in the locker room. We're excited and looking forward to the challenge."
