Strawberry Crest won its first Hillsborough County championship.

The Chargers cheerleading squad were crowned the Western Conference champions after they bested all the other Hillsborough County public high school squads Tuesday night.

Strawberry Crest finished ahead of Steinbrenner, last year’s Class 2A Large Division state runner-ups, and Durant.

Steinbrenner was limited with one of its top cheerleaders hampered by a torn ACL. Bobbi Chapman tore her ACL two years ago at the Western Conference cheerleading championships and recently reinjured the same knee. She was limited to stunting and unable to tumble during the Warriors routine.

Tuesday’s event at Durant High was a great precursor to the upcoming FHSAA Competitive Cheerleading Championships, which will take place Jan. 31-Feb. 2 at the Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee.

In addition to Steinbrenner’s runner-up finish last year, Sickles was also second in the Class 2A Small Co-Ed Division. Robinson is the defending state champion in the Class 1A Large Division.
