State notes: Steinbrenner's volleyball program is in the state final four for the first time in school history. The Warriors advanced after a sweep of Lake Nona in the regional finals. Steinbrenner also upset Durant in the regional semifinals, handing the Cougars their only loss of the season. ...Robinson is returning to the state tournament for the first time since 1978 when they claimed the 4A title with a victory over Plantation.
The Knights rallied from a two-set deficit to defeat Lely in five sets in the regional finals. ...Berkeley Prep made its most improbable run to the state tournament after a roller coaster ride of a season. The Bucs are making their 23rd state final four appearance.
The 15-time state champions are tied with Tampa Prep for second all-time with 114 tournament matches played. Cardinal Gibbons leads the state with 144. ...Clearwater Central Catholic is back in the final four for the first time since1989. The Marauders won the 2A state title in 1981 with a two-set sweep of Jacksonville Bolles and also in 1985 with a 2-1 win over Fort Pierce John Carroll.
