It was billed as one of the top spring football games in the state this year.

Manatee, a 2012 7A state semifinalist and 2011 state champion, taking on Tallahassee Lincoln, who fell in the 7A finals a year ago.

But what was supposed to be a preseason test for both teams turned into an all out onslaught in favor of the Hurricanes.

Manatee jumped out in front 21-0 in the 1st quarter and never looked back, dominating Lincoln 41-2.

The heir apparent to QB Cord Sandberg, sophomore Josh Meyer, showed he is more than capable of running head coach Joe Kinnan's offense throwing for one touchdown and running for two in his first varsity start.

RB Trevon Walters also had a monster game. Walters broke through for 50-plus yard run in the 1st quarter and a few plays later powered his way into the endzone for a 7-0 lead. Later in the quarter, Meyer took it in the endzone himself to put Manatee up 14-0. And then it was more of Walters, dashing his way for a 53-yard score to make it 21-0.

The Hurricane defense also dominated early, led by Florida State commit Demarcus Christmas and Daniel Doyle, who had two early sacks.

Manatee will host East Lake in their kick-off classic on Aug. 23 and open up the regular season at home against Gilman of Baltimore, Maryland on Sept. 1.
