Largo cross country head coach Brent Haley is the most successful coach in Pinellas County history.

In his 40 years of coaching (1962-1992), he led the Packers to 10 state titles, numerous records and two teams ranked number one in the nation.

From the late seventies through the mid-eighties the Packers not only dominated the cross country scene, but Coach Haley also became a father and mentor to many.

To honor all of his success, his former athletes traveled from around the country back to Largo to honor the man that taught them about life through the path of running.

With more than 100 runners and their families on hand, Coach Haley remembered names and shook the hands of wives, children and grandchildren, before they gathered on the start line for a two-mile run around Taylor Park.

Before the race got underway, Coach Haley introduced each class and rattled off each year's list of successes all from memory.

Concluding the days events, Packer alumni will gathered Saturday night at the Largo Community Center for a dinner and banquet to honor their "father".
