Lakewood Ranch head swim coach Peter Hegwein has stepped down for the rest of the swim season.

"For this year, he has resigned as the head coach," said athletic director Shawn Trent. "We are not sure what next year will bring."

The Mustangs have made the proper adjustments within the staff to not effect the 2013 swim season.

Matt Polk will take on the duties of head coach and Mike Johnson, who is an English teacher on campus and the head club coach for Lakewood Ranch Swim Association, will take on the responsibilities for the team.

Notable swimmers from the Mustang's program, include Danielle Valley, a 3-time FHSAA state champion and now a freshman at the University of Florida, Will Kozokas finished 4th in the 50 free and 6th in the 100 fly as a senior last year.

Returning swimmers, include Luke Hanner who as a sophomore finished 11th in the 100 fly, senior Jay Cho was a top 16 finisher as a junior in the 100 breast.
