Quarterback Xavier Gaines led Lake Wales to their second consecutive district title, racking up 287 total yards and 4 touchdowns in a 42-12 victory over Auburndale (5-3, 2-1). Lake Wales (6-2, 3-0) has now won eight of the last 10 meetings against their in-county rival.

The ground game paved the way for the Highlanders, as both Gaines and Justin Henderson finished with over 100 rushing yards. Earnest Hamilton chipped in with a rushing and a receiving TD as well.

Wilbur Cooper had a 91-yd kickoff return for a TD in the first half, but Lake Wales limited the Bloodhounds to just 16 total yards before halftime. Artavis Pierce found the end zone in the second half, and finished with 73 rushing yards.

Despite the loss, Auburndale's playoff ticket was punched as well, with Mulberry's win over Poinciana. They will host Poinciana in their district schedule finale next week, while Lake Wales heads to Tenoroc.
