Dwayne Lawson nearly carried Hillsborough to the playoffs last season.

In spite of Lawson's 2,120 passing yards, 1,068 rushing yards and 31 total touchdowns, the Terriers just missed out on the postseason in 201. With their star quarterback returning and over 30 seniors on the roster, things look promising for Hillsborough in spring.

Hillsborough head coach Earl Garcia has high praise for his star quarterback.

"I think he ranks up there with the best of them," said Garcia, who has been coaching football in the Tampa Bay area for 41 years. "You look at Kenny Kelly, you go a little more forward and you look at Stephen Garcia, all the great ones we've had, Aaron Murray and Robert Marve. I think he has characteristics of every one of those championship quarterbacks, and then some of his own.

"He has a chance to surpass all those guys and beat every Hillsborough High school record. We've been playing ball for 110 years, so that's a pretty good deal right there."
