Lovie Smith will have more of a hands-on role with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' defense this season.

Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports that the Bucs head coach decided that he will call the plays on defense instead of defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier.

Smith did not comment on the process, but Stroud did say that Smith took a less-active role in the defense last year due to then-offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford's absence.

Smith did call plays under the Tampa 2 scheme for part of the time that he was the head coach of the Chicago Bears.
