Pat McClain is in the business of helping others. During Hurricane Hermine, she was the one in need of help.

It came in the form of some Braden River football players who impacted McClain in such a way, she wrote an email to the Pirates head coach Curt Bradley.

Dear Mr. Bradley,

My name is Pat McClain and I wanted to take the time to thank 3 of your football players on the wonderful act of kindness they showed myself and the older lady I was taking home yesterday. As you are aware, the water build up in certain areas of Bradenton, was horrible yesterday. Unfortunately, I got stuck in the water.

That was when 3 of your football players, accompanied by their father (I presume) came wading out and asked if they could push my van up onto dry land. I was so grateful for their act of kindness and selflessness. I about cried.

After they got us to a safer location, I tried to pay them for their help. They all refused. I believe that there still is good in this world and it needs to be supported and encouraged.

Thank you for your part in showing these men that good and kind acts are always the way to always be.

Best wishes for a wonderful season,

Pat McClain

P.S.  I never got the names of the players but for me, yesterday, they were my heroes.

For the record, their names are Davontay Seabrooks, Demetrius Lawson and Paul Wiggins, or otherwise known as McClain's heroes.

"If my grandma had gotten stuck in that water, I’d want somebody to help my grandma," Demetrius Lawson said. "It didn’t feel right to take the money from her. I couldn’t make myself take the money from her.”

“I thought it was a good thing. It was a good thing we did," Davontay Seabrooks said. "I was raised to do that.”
