Darius Banks is the answer to a trivia question.

Who holds the all-time scoring record at St. Petersburg High? This guy.

“It’s a big accomplishment," Banks said. "Me and my family have been waiting on this for a long time. I really don’t care about the thing, but it’s an honor.”

Banks set the new mark in a district win over East Lake. His 24 points included a two-handed dunk that broke the previous record of 1,823 held by 90’s star Carlton Bryant. One of the top prospects in the state literally left his stamp on the Green Devils program.

“A positive role model to the younger kids to the players, as well too," head coach Chris Blackwell said. "It’s just a great experience to have a man like Darius in your program.”

“I’m thankful," Banks said. "I’m thankful for my coaches giving me the time to be on the court to do this.”

Records are nice, but Banks has bigger plans. Last year, his third as a starter for the Green Devils, he helped lead St. Pete to the Class 7A state title game. St. Pete lost the title to Ely, but it’s fueled the team to make another run this season.

“We’re nowhere near where we need to be," he said. "We’re just getting started, so this is nothing. We’re going to put up big numbers.”
