Newsome Wolves

2015: 5-5, 4th in 8A-District 6

Last Playoff Appearance: 2012 when the Wolves advanced to the Class 7A regional finals where they lost to Kissimmee Osceola, 21-18.

Head Coach: Ken Hiscock, 66-42 in 10 seasons

Key Returners: RB/CB Neil Bryant , K/P Alec Hallman,  LB AJ Henderson, ATH Patrick Jolly, FB Zach Kyle, QB Drew Lindbeck, RB/CB Will Proctor, LB Dylan Throneburg

The Scoop: The Wolves game plan never changes. They like to pound the rock. But someone else will need to assume the main rushing duties since Newsome lost its top four rushers from last year that accounted for 91% of the rushing yards. Newsome has to replace all its starters on offense and they bring back two on defense.

Quotable: “The past three years we’ve been 5-5 and that’s not so good for the Newsome way or the Wolf Way, we call it. So we’ve got to get back to our winning ways and just be competitive." Hiscock

The Wolf Way.  At Newsome, it’s about doing things right. Doing the right thing when no one is watching.

“The Wolf Way is just working hard, giving it all you can have and just having your teammates back,” linebacker Dylan Throneburg said.

They’re a wolfpack, these band of Newsome brothers, working hard in the offseason to overcome three-straight mediocre seasons. Construction at school has forced them off campus, but that hasn’t limited their commitment to getting better.

“We’re young and we’re motivated,” Throneburg said. “We hustle and we work hard. I mean, you can see in the workouts, we just bust our tail.”

“Every day they get better, more confident,” head coach Ken Hiscock said. “So when you add the size and the speed, they can kind of play within themselves.”

Newsome will need this hard work to carry over onto the football field. The Wolves lost every offensive starter and all but two on defense. That’s a lot of experience to replace, but Hiscock is hopeful his youth movement will pull through.

“It’s a young team but the work ethic,” Hiscock said. “And the drive that they have as such a young group, it’s enjoyable to come out here and work with them.”
