Some couples couldn't wait to get married on Valentine's Day — and Orange County was more than happy to help make their day special.

  • Orange Clerk of Courts expected at least 60 weddings

When the county was brainstorming ideas on how to make Wednesday's weddings special, it decided to put together a couples package, Orange County Clerk of Courts Tiffany Russell said.

For a $50 fee, couples got a wedding ceremony in a newly renovated ceremony room, a commemorative certificate and wedding photos on a flash drive.

Plus, for wedding cake, guests were served cupcakes.

The normal marriage ceremony fee is $30.

Dain Weister, the communications director at the Clerk of Courts, said that on a normal day, there are 12 to 15 weddings held at the courthouse. But there were 33 appointments for weddings, not to mention the walk-ins, for Wednesday's event.

Weister expected at least 60 weddings by the end of the day.

As for the couples, getting married on Valentine's Day had special meaning.

"I can't forget my anniversary," Willie Barnes said with some laughs, just minutes after marrying Skakeera Barnes.

"He is everything to me. I can't live without this man," said the bride.

For Alexia and Yuliana Moodie, it was something else.

"She makes me a better person," Alexia said.

"She never gives up on me," Yuliana added.
