David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, creators of the “Game of Thrones” TV series, are venturing into a galaxy far, far away.

The duo will write and produce a new series of “Star Wars” films, Lucasfilm announced Tuesday.

The new film series will be separate from the Skywalker saga. It will also not be tied to the trilogy that’s being developed by “The Last Jedi” director Rian Johnson. No release dates have been announced for the new set of films.

“David and Dan are some of the best storytellers working today,” Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said in a statement. “Their command of complex characters, depth of story and richness of mythology will break new ground and boldly push Star Wars in way I find incredibly exciting.”

During a Disney earnings call, CEO Bob Iger said talks between the two parties have been going on for a while.

“They are focused on a point in time in the “Star Wars” mythology and taking it from there,” Iger said.

Benioff and Weiss were set to write and serve as showrunners on HBO’s slave drama “Confederate.”

The final season of “Game of Thrones” is set to air sometime in 2019, likely freeing up the duo to work on “Star Wars.”
