KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Four men and women who perform volunteer work with children have been selected as the finalists for the Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award, which will be presented at NASCAR's awards banquet in November.
Carl Dakes of Harwood, Maryland, has spent 18 years helping the Believe In Tomorrow Children's Foundation to help provide services to critically ill children and their families.
Sarah Kersey of Dublin, Ohio, has volunteered since 2010 at Flying Horse Farms, where children with serious illnesses can have camp experiences at no cost.
Cliff Preston of Gainesville, Florida, has spent more than 25 years "cuddling" at the University of Florida's hospital network to help soothe newborns in the NICU.
Rex Reynold of Hazel Green, Alabama, has spent 13 years volunteering with the Boys & Girls Club of North Alabama. Reynolds grew up participating in club programs.
The winner will be determined by fan voting. The NASCAR Foundation will donate $25,000 to the charities represented by each finalist with the winner's charity receiving $100,000.
