A Brooksville man was arrested Saturday after deputies said he used cat food to steal laptops.
Jason A. Brady, 33, is facing charges in connection with three separate cases that took place at the same Walmart over a four-day period.
According to deputies, the thefts came to the attention of loss prevention officers at the Walmart on Commercial Way in Spring Hill. They had noticed laptop computers were disappearing from the store's inventory, so they began reviewing surveillance video.
Deputies said they quickly discovered that Brady would enter the store, walk to the electronics department and put a computer in the shopping cart. He would then head over to the pet food aisle, select a very large bag of cat food and put it directly on top of the computer, hiding it, deputies said.
Brady would then leave the store without paying for the computer or the cat food, the report said.
Deputies said he did this once on April 30 at 9:40, when he took a Hewlett-Packard computer valued at $498. They said he came right back into the store and did it again, this time with an Acer computer valued at $1,267.
On Friday, deputies said Brady took a Gateway computer worth $448, then later that day, at 2:57 p.m., came back into the store and took a Hewlett-Packard laptop worth $798.
Brady was arrested Saturday and booked into the Hernando County Detention Center on charges of felony retail theft. Bond was set at $6,000.
